J'ACCUSE....(I accuse)

An open letter written by French writer Emile Zola,addressing French president, he accused the government of unlawful jailing of Alfred Dreyfus.Several writers and movie makers used this title for their books and movies.

What was the problem and a question:Should any institution be protected by all costs,at expense of justice or is it permissible to obstruct justice to protect any institution? In 1894, the French counterintelligence uncovered a trivial affair of espionage for the benefit of Germany and accused Captain Alfred Dreyfus.

 He was jailed. But then, a year later, Lieutenant-Colonel Piquart discovered a document,an evidence to prove him innocent. On the one hand, the Dreyfusians took stand that one should not compromise with the principles: if Dreyfus is innocent, he must be released and rehabilitated.

On the other hand, the Anti- Dreyfus, considered that the national interest takes precedence over human rights.

They feared that morale of army will be undermined. After the publication of Emile Zola’s letter, the review took place and Dreyfus was rehabilitated in 1906.Neither Government nor Army suffered from anything.

Well,what can we say!Perhaps only after judgement delivered in case of Musharraf and Asghar Khan case.
